Build exposure gradually. Get morning light first, before the UV index climbs. Aim for direct skin and eye contact, not through a window. Window glass blocks UVB — the wavelength your body uses to make vitamin D — so a sunny window does nothing for your hormone system. You have to be outside.

Take the sunglasses off for the morning exposure. The light has to reach your eyes to trigger the hormone cascade. Ten to twenty minutes most days is enough to move the needle for most skin types.

One honest caveat: From late fall to early spring, anyone living north of about 35 degrees latitude cannot produce meaningful vitamin D from the sun alone. The angle is wrong and the UV index is too low. This is the only window where supplementation is doing real work.
